While I recommend a managed hosting/site maintenance package to my web design clients, some people just ask who I recommend.
My favorite web hosting company:
Great reputation among Internet professionals, fast support, inexpensive pricing (usually less than $10/month), works well with web design software such as WordPress too.
If you only have one website that needs hosting there’s a package called the “Hatchling” – there’s often a sale, but it’s usually less than $10/month, less if you prepay for at least a year. It offers unlimited bandwidth, unlimited disk space, unlimited email accounts – more than enough for most websites! You don’t have 5-page or 10-page site size limits with this company, either.
My Favorite Domain Name Registrar:
Godaddy.com is reputable, affordable and very fast to propagate. (I do NOT recommend Godaddy for hosting though; you pay more for WordPress hosting and their free website builder is a PAIN.)
To learn more about how to choose a domain name, read this article of mine from the Columbia Daily Tribune, “Domain Name Choice More than Pick and Click.”
(In the interest of full disclosure – yes, these are affiliate links – I earn a commission if you click on them and make a purchase. You do not pay any more, it’s just that the company shares their profit with me, as the one who referred you. If you don’t want to use my link, you can certainly find the companies on your own!)
